Wow! What a toy. April 21, 2010 HeroicH1bee (Scotland) This has been the purchase of the year. My daughter has had so much fun and learned so much. Hours of fun, but learning at the same time is great. Car journey's are back to being a joy!
Educational and fun March 2, 2010 Mrs. Joyce Mckee (Sussex, UK) I bought this for my son's 5th birthday because I wanted to steer him away from his older brothers' game consoles towards something more age appropriate. So far I am very impressed. The graphics are very good considering it is about one third of the price of a PSP or DSi. He has a Sonic game which teaches him maths skills such as number recognition, sequencing, addition and subtraction. The educational nature of the games doesn't get in the way of the fun aspect. It comes with a free downloadable game (there's a choice of 4 I think) plus an art/drawing game, which he has really enjoyed. You can connect the leapster to your computer and see how long they have been playing each game, what they have learned and what they are finding difficult. It uses standard batteries and also automatically switches itself off if left untouched for 5 minutes - useful for young kids. It also has a standard headphone jack. On the downside the choice of games is fairly limited and a bit on the pricey side. Overall I would say it is a great toy for 5-7 year old.
A hit February 17, 2010 Mum of 4 (UK) I bought this for Christmas for my 5 year old and 6 year old. They love it. It is easy to use and we have had no problems with the consoles. My one boy is left handed and finds the stylus string just a little bit short but still manageable. The games that you can get with it are educational and fun, and lots of them are well recognised characters. you get a free download game too which aren't great but my 3 year old happily plays those! Overall we were really pleased- my only quibble is that they do use 4 AA batteries that don't last long! I would recommend buying a charger, DC adapter or decent rechargeable batteries.
A good buy!

the hand held game is very good, but not very durable. i was dissapointed to find that it did not come with a mains adapter either, and you had to buy this seperatly, but appart from that, the educational benifits from the games are great. my son loves this toy and is really benifiting from it.
